After discovering illegal waste was dumped in the Chelmsford area, accumulating to around 8 houses worth, Chelmsford residents are being warned to dispose of waste in the correct manner.
Only use legitimate waste disposal companies
A suspected illegal waste site was descended upon by police and enforcement officers on 19th August 2020, after a huge amount of waste had been dumped at the site, including, glass, paper, textiles, metals and plastics.
Due to these findings, Chelmsford residents and business owners are being urged to only use legitimate waste disposal companies. Waste can be traced back to the owners and can be held accountable for using companies or individuals who dump waste illegally. Residents and business owners should check for their carrier licence. You can ask to see their licence, check online or contact the Environment Agency direct on 03708 506 506.
With waste crime costing the UK economy £600 million a year, it’s no wonder that Environment Agencies are coming down hard on illegal waste activities. Tackling waste crime is essential to living in a clean, safe environment. Residents must ensure household waste is disposed of correctly and report any criminal findings that involve waste being illegally dumped immediately.
Environment Agency enforcement team leader, Lesley Robertson has been asking anyone with information about the waste crime to come forward. You can call the hotline on 0800 80 70 60 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, either on 0800 555 111 or their website crimestoppers-uk.org
